The New York City Muslim Center (NYCMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and home to one of the Largest Muslim Centers in New York City. Our 60,000 sq. ft. facility impacts over 2,000 lives weekly and serves as the headquarters for:

The Opportunity
We are seeking a HR Manager to lead our human resources function across all NYCMC departments. This role is critical in ensuring operational excellence, staff accountability, and a strong organizational culture rooted in professionalism.
You will oversee all HR operations, manage employee relations, enforce policies, and build scalable systems that support a growing organization of 50+ staff members.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Leadership & Strategy
- Oversee all HR functions across NYCMC and its branches
- Develop and implement HR systems, policies, and SOPs
- Align HR strategy with organizational growth and leadership goals
- Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on staffing and organizational structure
2. Recruitment & Hiring
- Manage full-cycle recruitment (job postings, screening, interviews, onboarding)
- Develop structured interview systems and evaluation rubrics
- Ensure all hires align with NYCMC’s mission, values, and standards
- Build pipelines for high-quality talent across departments
3. Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Conduct HR touchpoints, performance reviews, and disciplinary meetings
- Address employee concerns with professionalism and confidentiality
- Implement performance improvement plans and accountability systems
- Maintain clear documentation of all HR matters
4. Culture & Staff Development
- Lead initiatives to improve staff morale, engagement, and retention
- Organize trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities
- Strengthen internal communication and team alignment
- Uphold and reinforce a culture of ihsan (excellence) and accountability
5. Compliance & HR Operations
- Ensure compliance with NYC and NY State labor laws
- Manage employee records, contracts, and HR documentation
- Oversee payroll coordination in collaboration with finance
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational data
6. Systems & Efficiency
- Build scalable HR systems to support a growing team
- Improve workflows for onboarding, evaluations, and staff communication
- Introduce tools and processes that increase efficiency and reduce friction
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 3–7+ years of HR experience (nonprofit or education experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices
- Proven ability to manage teams and enforce accountability
- Exceptional communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
- Alignment with NYCMC’s mission and values

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
