Middle School/High School Band Director
Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to serve as our Middle School/High School Band Director. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instrumental music instruction while building a positive, engaging band program that encourages student participation, musical growth, and school pride.
Position: MS/HS Band Director
Grades: 5–12
Status: Full-Time
School Year: 2026–2027
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide instrumental music instruction for students in grades 5–12.
- Direct middle school and high school concert bands and other assigned ensembles.
- Develop students' skills in instrumental technique, music literacy, ensemble performance, and musicianship.
- Plan and conduct school concerts and other performances throughout the year.
- Prepare students and ensembles for appropriate festivals, assessments, and honors opportunities.
- Direct and coordinate the marching/pep band program for school and community events, including athletic events and parades, as applicable.
- Select developmentally appropriate repertoire that challenges students and provides varied musical experiences.
- Maintain and manage the District's musical instruments, equipment, uniforms, and music library.
- Recruit and encourage students to participate in the band program and support successful transitions between grade levels.
- Establish a positive classroom and rehearsal environment with clear expectations for student behavior, participation, and performance.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administration regarding rehearsals, performances, and program activities.
- Collaborate with other District staff to support school events and the broader educational program.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and other responsibilities consistent with the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Principal.
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with JX or JQ Music Education endorsement.
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy and experience working with concert band instruments.
- Strong conducting, rehearsal, classroom management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with middle and high school students.
- Commitment to developing a strong, inclusive, and sustainable instrumental music program.
- Previous experience directing a school band program is preferred but not required.
Compensation
Salary and benefits in accordance with the Lake Linden-Hubbell Education Association collective bargaining agreement and based upon qualifications and experience.
