Summary
Provides leadership and backup for the toxicology department. Able to lead, maintain, and perform all department functions. Ensures that laboratory is compliant with current state and federal regulations. Attention to detail with superb organizational skills are vital. Previous experience with HPLC and/or mass spectroscopy is required. Must be cognizant of the expected turnaround time and strive to reach goals with minimal error.

- Leads the daily operations of the toxicology staff ensuring that proper coverage is in place to service the laboratory and completes payroll.
- Assist management with interviewing, hiring and the exit process for employees.
- Ensures that the lab is ready for CLIA, State of TN, and OSHA inspection at all times.
- Be aware of laboratory safety procedures.
- Must follow all SOP directives.
- Reviews and ensures that all written lab procedures are updated/current followed by staff.
- Monitors, improves and maintains productivity of all toxicology staff in order to meet acceptable turn-around time requirements.
- Reviews work on a daily basis to ensure that all work in has been processed properly.
- Ensures all lab equipment is calibrated and functioning effectively at all times.
- Ensures that the records are organized, neat and readily retrievable.
- Ensures that all specimens are organized and readily retrievable.
- Meets target dates and due dates for completion of tasks.
- Ensures that the lab is organized, neat and clean.
- Provides back up to any technical or clerical position as needed.
- Load, run, and data review of LCMS samples and perform instrument maintenance
- Must help and guide in the instruction and training of new employees.
- Be able to troubleshoot problems as they arise in a calm and proficient manner.
- Be open to all changes within the continuously evolving department.
- Be able to adjust days/shift as needed.
- Follow any directives given by the supervisor or management.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard lab equipment/instruments. This role routinely has direct contact with caustic chemicals.

Education and Experience

MLT with Tennessee state license (or eligible) or B.S. in a related science.
