Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers equipped with flatbed trailers across diverse OTR routes, including specialized loads such as hazardous materials and refrigerated cargo when applicable.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques and equipment like forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems, planning routes that optimize delivery times while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, inspections, and cargo details in compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before departure.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues encountered during transit.
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous or dangerous goods following hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers with manual transmissions preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially in flatbed or tanker loads, with knowledge of logistics cargo handling.
- Familiarity with route driving on OTR schedules, including long-distance deliveries across multiple states.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for truck loading/unloading.
- Ability to manually handle freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or dump trucks when necessary.
- Strong understanding of truck loading/unloading procedures and freight security practices.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and customer service.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight manually or with equipment; comfortable working in various weather conditions.
