Position Summary
The Exhibitions & Education Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all exhibitions and educational programming. This role serves as the primary liaison to artists, instructors, students, and members, ensuring high-quality artistic programming and smooth day-to-day gallery and school operations.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibitions (Main Gallery)
Plan and execute:
o Two annual themed membership exhibitions (January & September)
o One annual juried exhibition (including juror selection and digital entry management)
o At least five invitational exhibitions annually
Select artists for invitational exhibitions with a focus on diverse mediums with input from Executive Director.
Coordinate exhibition schedules with leadership
Prepare and manage artist contracts
Install and deinstall exhibitions
Ensure timely pickup of artwork
Coordinate exhibition receptions (logistics, artists, basic setup)
Attend opening receptions and actively engage with members and artists in addition to facilitating sales
Juried & Membership Shows
Manage digital submissions and artist communications
Send acceptance/rejection notifications
Identify and coordinate jurors
Secure prize sponsors in coordination with Executive Director/Senior Advisor
Community Exhibitions
Curate and schedule exhibitions across ~15 community venues
Coordinate the installation and deinstallation of artwork with the venue contact
Select participating artists
Manage timelines (2–3 month rotations)
Prepare exhibition materials (labels, master lists)
Support installation as needed
Maintain/expand/review community venues and prepare contracts for participating venues
Education / AAH School
Develop and manage semester class schedules (winter, spring, summer, fall)
Manage the life class that includes securing the model
Recruit and communicate with instructors
Prepare and distribute instructor contracts
Coordinate class logistics (space, timing, enrollment)
Oversee student registration coordination with administrative support
Ensure instructors are paid (in coordination with Executive Director)
Membership & Artist Relations
Serve as primary point of contact for members, artists, and students
Support membership engagement through exhibitions and programming
Maintain accurate records of artist participation and classes
Assist with production of quarterly newsletters
Supply content and coordinate social media with other staff
Pay: $23.33 - $28.10 per hour
