Project Geologist / Project Engineer
Swenson – Marzec & Associates, Inc. is seeking a qualified Project Geologist or Project Engineer, with Earthsoft EQuIS Database experience, to join our team based in the Chicago, Illinois area. The ideal candidate will assist with and/or manage multiple projects, including Phase I / II ESAs, large on-going environmental projects, and corrective action activities. Responsibilities will include data management and evaluation, technical reporting writing, project budgeting, coordination with contractors, and interaction with clients and regulatory agencies. This is a full-time position and the anticipated start date during the 3rd Quarter of 2026. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field
- P.G. or P.E. Certification
- Valid Driver’s License
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certified
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental consulting field managing site investigation and remediation projects
- Proficient in Industry Standard Data Management Best Practices and EQuIS
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook and experience with Python software
- Working knowledge of Illinois EPA and/or Indiana DEM regulatory programs and respective action level criteria are a plus
- Ability to operate independently and as part of a team
Work Environment
This mid-level position consists predominantly of working in an office environment reviewing analytical data, drafting technical reports, and project management. In addition, the position will require working independently in the field or as part of a larger field team as needed. Typical field activities include fluid gauging, sample collection, recording operational/meter parameters, and oversight/direction of subcontractors (e.g., drillers, heavy equipment operators, truckers). Office work will primarily consist of using a computer and its peripheral devices which require repetitive hand movements. Field activities require the ability to drive to multiple project sites and perform physical activities (routinely lift and carry objects, stand, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel and twist) in various outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions. This position will consist of approximately 65% office and 35% field work, depending on experience.
Compensation
Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000. Actual compensation package will be based on relevant work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications, skill sets, and internal equity. In addition, this position is eligible for bonuses based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
