In this role, you’ll operate tractor-trailers and specialized vehicles, ensuring timely and safe transportation of goods. Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or truck loading/unloading equipment, including handling hazardous or dangerous goods in accordance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to follow designated routes and optimize delivery schedules.
- Transport a variety of cargo types such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or automobile transportation units while maintaining cargo integrity.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with safety standards.
- Manage documentation accurately for freight manifests, delivery receipts, and compliance logs related to hazardous materials or special cargo.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries, troubleshoot issues on the road, and ensure customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tankers, or automobile transportation is preferred.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Ability to handle manual transmission vehicles and perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time directions.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling procedures for freight loading/unloading and securing loads properly.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, punctuality, and customer service.
