Purpose: Provides health care services applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs computed tomography and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognized patient=s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates working knowledge of any and all modality specific ancillary equipment such as, contrast injectors, portable ultrasound unit, Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), patient monitoring, QC phantoms, PAC’s/RIS workstations. Performs exams following modality specific protocols resulting in high quality images using appropriate imaging techniques.
2. Appropriate storage, handling and administration of intravenous contrast agents.
3. Maintains documentation and insures accuracy of all pertinent patient and procedural data such as patient history, exam title, patient demographics, laterality markers, and modality specific questionnaires and screening tools.
4. Prepares patient for procedure: providing instructions to obtain desired results. Gain cooperation and minimize anxiety as per patient education standards.
5. Applies safety principles to minimize risks to patient, self, and others. Following establish standards such as ALARA.
6. Conducts ongoing patient assessment including monitoring of the patient’s condition and assuming the responsibility for provision of physical or psychological needs during procedures ensuring patient safety. Provides pre and post procedure patient education.
7. Assists as needed to perform modality specific QA/QC procedures insuring equipment operates within manufacturers and regulatory guidelines.
8. Assumes responsibility of assigned area assuring all rooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and meets the standards set by each modality.
9. Participates in modality specific PI Plan.
10. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department through communication either written or verbal with lead technologist training to equipment, patients and other staff members.
11. Adheres to all infection control protocols, including sterile technique while setting up procedure table and assisting as scrub tech during procedures.
12. Performs IV contrast injections in accordance with hospital and NYS DOH guidelines.
13. Maintain and Model REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
14. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
15. Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 2 years Intervention Radiology experience preferred.
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
- NYS Registered Radiologic Technologist
- ARRT- Radiology required
- BLS required
