Summary
Provides nutritional consultation for students and university departments campuswide
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates with internal and external providers regarding consultation with students on nutrition-related health concerns both acute and chronic in nature
Consults with students regarding weight management and fitness or health concerns
Educates students on the importance of optimal nutrition for performance and recovery from injury
Provides nutrition counseling and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to students to prevent and/or manage certain chronic health conditions
Implements nutrition workshops for students
Collaborates with other university departments to enhance the health and well-being of students
Provides training and education sessions to other university departments to address nutrition, health and wellness related issues
Acts as a preceptor to graduate nutrition students completing supervised experiential education
Collaborates with other university departments to maintain that individual dietary requirements for students are being met
Provides nutritional information to students with special dietary needs and food allergies
Provides individualized student nutritional assessments and develops nutrition care plans, including potentially high risk situations requiring referrals to inpatient care facilities, as necessary
Assesses student’s nutritional needs based on a full evaluation of their current and historic eating behaviors, patterns, caloric intake and food type consumption
Assists with departmental budget
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
Moderate amount of experience working as a Dietitian or other related experience
Active Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) license in Rhode Island
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education food service
