Job Summary
The Dispensary Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to registered medical marijuana patients and caregivers in compliance with Ohio cannabis laws and dispensary policies. This role focuses on educating customers, accurately dispensing cannabis products, maintaining compliance, and supporting daily dispensary operations in a professional and compassionate manner.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Education
- Greet and assist patients and caregivers in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner
- Verify patient and caregiver credentials in accordance with Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations
- Educate customers on cannabis products, including strains, dosages, methods of consumption, and potential effects (without providing medical advice)
- Recommend products based on customer needs, preferences, and physician recommendations
Sales & Transactions
- Accurately process sales using the point-of-sale (POS) system
- Ensure compliance with purchase limits and state tracking systems (e.g., METRC)
- Handle cash payments responsibly and accurately
- Educate Customer/Patients regarding any specials and/or new products when appropriate
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain strict adherence to all Ohio cannabis laws, regulations, and dispensary SOPs
- Ensure all products are handled, labeled, and stored correctly
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA-like privacy standards
- Report discrepancies, compliance concerns, or suspicious activity to management
Inventory & Store Operations
- Assist with inventory intake, counting, labeling, and restocking
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional sales floor and work environment
- Support opening and closing procedures as assigned
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Ohio dispensary employee license/badge
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn POS and inventory systems
Preferred:
- Previous retail, hospitality, or customer service experience
- Prior experience in a medical cannabis dispensary
- Knowledge of cannabis products, terminology, and consumption methods
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
