Nexus Employment Solutions Plus, Inc. is looking to hire directly for a CNC Operator position in the Chicago Heights, IL area.
The CNC Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, and monitoring DMG Mori 3-axis CNC machining centers using Siemens 840D / 840D sl controls to produce high-quality machined parts that meet customer specifications and tight dimensional tolerances. This position reads and interprets technical drawings and CNC programs, performs tooling and offset adjustments, conducts quality inspections, troubleshoots basic machining issues, and works independently to maintain efficient production and minimize downtime.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Set up, calibrate, and operate DMG Mori 3-axis CNC machining centers according to job orders, production schedules, and standard operating procedures.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and machining specifications to determine machining parameters, tooling requirements, and process sequences.
- Load, navigate, and execute Siemens G-code and M-code programs using Siemens 840D / 840D sl controls.
- Select, inspect, install, and align cutting tools, fixtures, attachments, and workholding devices according to job specifications.
- Perform manual tool offsets and work offset adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Input and adjust machine settings, tooling offsets, and basic program parameters as needed to meet quality and productivity requirements.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Monitor machine performance for unusual vibrations, tool wear, dimensional issues, or other conditions that could affect product quality.
- Perform basic G-code editing and parameter adjustments at the machine console to correct dimensional issues and maintain quality standards.
- Apply knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and coolant requirements for various materials.
- Troubleshoot routine machining and equipment issues, escalating complex mechanical or technical problems as needed.
- Perform routine operator-level maintenance including coolant checks, chip removal, lubrication, and checking for visible wear or damage.
- Manage daily production tasks independently with minimal supervision while meeting production schedules and quality requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area according to company housekeeping and safety standards.
- Follow all safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional CNC operating experience in a manufacturing or machining environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience operating DMG Mori 3-axis CNC milling machines.
- Strong proficiency with Siemens 840D / 840D sl controller interface, including program loading, navigation, line execution, and tool/work offset adjustments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
- Strong understanding of shop math and precision measurement.
- Solid understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and coolant requirements for various materials.
- Ability to perform basic G-code editing and make machine adjustments at the control.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during the work shift and perform physical tasks typical of a machining environment.
- Ability to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Vocational training, apprenticeship, or formal education in machining/manufacturing technology is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Mastercam or Edge-level CAM software verification.
- Experience working in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience troubleshooting CNC machining processes and optimizing machine performance.
Schedule:
- Full-time, 1st Shift position.
- Monday through Friday schedule.
- Overtime may be required based on production needs.
