What You’ll Do
You’ll help own the patient experience from check-in through follow-up, ensuring every patient receives safe, efficient, accurate, and compassionate care.
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Obtain thorough and accurate patient histories and document chief complaints clearly in the medical record.
- Perform visual acuity and other basic ophthalmic testing.
- Measure intraocular pressure and administer ophthalmic drops as directed.
- Assist physicians with minor office-based surgical procedures.
- Scribe for physicians in real time, ensuring accurate and compliant clinical documentation.
- Perform basic ophthalmic coding and support accurate documentation for billing.
- Prepare prescriptions for physician review and signature.
- Recognize and communicate important patient findings or changes to the physician promptly.
Patient Communication & Care Coordination
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients regarding procedures, symptoms, follow-up care, surgeries, and changes to their care plan.
- Schedule surgical procedures and coordinate pre-operative and post-operative requirements.
- Return patient phone calls and messages within 24 hours.
- Process prescription refill requests appropriately.
- Assist with recalls, follow-ups, and patient retention efforts.
- Help patients understand what comes next in their care—because great clinical care means little if the patient leaves confused.
Clinic Operations & Equipment
- Keep examination and procedure rooms clean, organized, stocked, and ready for the next patient.
- Sterilize instruments and maintain appropriate infection-control standards.
- Restock clinical supplies and maintain an organized back office.
- Operate, maintain, and care for ophthalmic diagnostic and clinical equipment.
- Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs before they become a problem.
- Help maintain lasers, autoclaves, diagnostic equipment, and other clinical systems.
- Identify potential safety concerns and take proactive action to maintain a safe environment.
- Follow established clinical, operational, and compliance procedures consistently.

Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant Certificate required.
- Ophthalmology experience strongly preferred.
Language
- Spanish required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients is essential.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of ophthalmic practices and patient care.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately read, write, and interpret medical and procedural documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and basic mathematical skills.
- Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Comfortable learning and using electronic medical records, internet-based software, and other digital systems.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
Ophthalmic Equipment Experience
Experience with the following is highly valued:
- HVF – Humphrey Visual Field
- OCT
- IOL Master
- Lensometer
- Visucam NM/FA
- Ophthalmic Ultrasound Scanner
