Job Title: Mechanic Trainer
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanic Trainer to teach and develop the next generation of skilled mechanics in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of AC and DC electric motors. This is a hands-on teaching role for someone who has mastered the trade and wants to pass it on. You will work side by side with trainees in the shop, demonstrating techniques, checking their work, and building them into mechanics who can work independently on AC/DC motors, gearboxes, and brakes.
Responsibilities:
- Train mechanics to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble AC and DC electric motors, demonstrating each step and supervising hands-on practice
- Teach trainees how to identify and diagnose motor problems including bearing wear, winding damage, and component failures
- Train trainees to diagnose, repair, and rebuild industrial fans and blowers
- Teach the servicing of various types of pumps
- Teach trainees how to test motors and troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods
- Demonstrate proper disassembly of motors, including noting parts identification, configuration, and condition
- Train trainees on cleaning motor assemblies using various methods and equipment, including but not limited to: parts washers, power washer, and sand blasters, etc.
- Teach how to measure for and note proper replacement parts
- Demonstrate and supervise the replacement or repair of worn or defective assemblies, including but not limited to: bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, gaskets, mechanical switches, etc.
- Supervise and verify the reassembly of tested motors
- Teach trainees to read job cards, inspection and parts needed reports, special instructions, and the job tracker file
- Train trainees to complete required paperwork for each job timely and accurately, and to maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used
- Teach and enforce proper safety procedures for working with electrical equipment, including use of proper protective gear, especially eye and ear protection
- Train and certify trainees on crane operation
- Teach trainees to maintain clean and organized work areas and tool inventory
- Set training plans and goals for each trainee, evaluate their progress, and sign off when they are ready to work independently
- Give regular, honest feedback to trainees and report progress to the Shop Foreman
- Perform skilled mechanic work alongside trainees as needed, including routine maintenance tasks and field service calls
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
A Successful Candidate will have:
- Proven hands-on experience in every area listed above: AC/DC motor teardown, diagnosis, repair, rebuild, and testing
- The patience and communication skills to explain, demonstrate, and correct without discouraging a trainee
- Prior experience training, mentoring, or supervising less experienced mechanics or apprentices
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- A commitment to safety and the willingness to hold trainees to safety protocols every time
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Would be great to have:
· Technical school training, mechanical or related field
· Previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or repair environment
· Familiarity with electrical testing equipment
· Experience with DC motors
· Basic computer skills for documentation and web searches
· Basic understanding of electrical concepts
· OSHA 10 or better
· Tow motor experience
· Welding certification or experience
Physical Requirements
· Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
· Fine motor skills for detailed assembly and repair work
· Ability to talk, hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
· Ability to clearly see 20+ feet with or without corrective lenses. Must have color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation
· Salary range from $65,000 to $80,000/year based on experience

Work Environment
This position is based in our facility in Cleveland, OH. A majority of the work will be performed in our shop. Occasionally, work is performed off site.
