Performs plumbing trade work in the construction, maintenance and repair of assigned county property, structures and equipment.
Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by four (4) years of specific experience which provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled plumbing trade tasks, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in a supervisory or lead capacity preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required: Requires a valid driver license. May require a valid Class “B” commercial driver license (“CDL”), depending on assignment, within one (1) year of hire. County plumbing license preferred. Certified Backflow Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered equipment and tools, where excellent eye/hand/foot coordination is essential for safe and productive operations. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing/walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders, etc. Requires excellent equilibrium to prevent falling from narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information. Requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, use decimals and determine percentages; requires the ability to measure angles and distances and calculate square footage.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or public contact. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
