Decatur County Public Health is seeking a dedicated Health Educator/Tobacco Treatment Specialist to lead tobacco prevention and cessation efforts across five counties in southern Iowa.
Position Overview
This position will coordinate tobacco prevention and cessation programs while working directly with youth, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce tobacco use.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead tobacco cessation and prevention initiatives throughout the five-county service area.
- Provide educational presentations and activities for students in local schools.
- Develop and support youth-led Iowa Students for Tobacco Education and Prevention (ISTEP) chapters.
- Engage youth in leadership opportunities that promote tobacco-free living.
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and healthcare partners.
- Assist with community outreach, health promotion campaigns, and public health education efforts.
- Collect program data, complete reports, and assist with grant requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health, Nursing, Education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with youth, schools, public health programs, or tobacco prevention preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
