TITLE: PRESCHOOL TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey certificate and/or special area certification of eligibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective early childhood and inclusion teaching practices and developmentally appropriate, differentiated classroom activities.
- Maintaining a learning environment inclusive of learners of all abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with staff to ensure inclusion opportunities for students.
- A Criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status, and a complete physical examination.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Students, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom teaching assistants.
JOB GOALS: To create a flexible PreK program and establish a class environment that fosters student learning and growth for all learners; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to the Compass Academy Charter School mission and educational philosophy including all curricula and the Let Me Learn Process®.
- Participate in ongoing professional development including but not limited to expanding expertise in the Let Me Learn Process®, remaining current with regard to education literature, maintaining and enriching personal expertise in all assigned subject areas and seeking opportunities for curricular enrichment that are outside of the classroom as well as within it. This may include inviting specialists and/or experts in to visit/teach students.
- Facilitate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students through the use of the Let Me Learn Process® by developing long and short-term planning addressing the needs of individual students based on their personal learning technology.
- Maintain knowledge of early childhood learners, including children with special developmental and learning needs. Seeks opportunities for professional growth.
- Support the development and learning of individual children, recognizing that children are best understood in the context of family, culture, and society.
- Plan, implement, and assess utilizing developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessments that advance children's learning and development, including social, emotional, behavioral, intellectual, and physical competence.
- Establish supportive relationships with children and implement developmentally appropriate structure, guidance, and class management techniques.
- Establish and maintain open communication and positive relationships with families.
- Seeks opportunities for students to learn in inclusive settings and utilizes strong interpersonal andcommunication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and as a member of an instructional team.
- Communicate effectively with parents or family members through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress, provide home/school learning connections, and interpret the school program. Responsible for promptly and professionally responding to parent requests for communication.
- Communicate effectively with other professionals and agencies concerned with children and families in the larger community to support children's development, learning, and well-being.
- Teaches assigned grade level/subject reflecting the Pre-School Teaching and Learning Standards utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
- Incorporates technology into the teaching/learning process to provide all students with an opportunity to succeed.
- Plans and paces lessons appropriately to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Provides lesson plans which allow the learning process to continue for students in the teacher’s absence.
- Establishes and maintains a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
- Designs an orderly and predictable classroom in which materials and furniture are thoughtfully arranged to foster student independence and accessibility for all learners and models effective organization.
- Creates a safe and effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school and district.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as requested.
- Keeps informed of and complies with state, city, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compiles maintains, and files all required reports, records, and other documents. Responsible for checking district email at least daily.
- Attends and participates in faculty, grade level, and district-wide meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
- Guides young learners in independent self-care routines and practices.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Superintendent, to support the ongoing development of the Compass Academy Charter School, as deemed appropriate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of certified staff.
SALARY RANGE: $52,500 - $60,000
Pay: $52,500.00 - $60,000.00 per year
