Social Media & Digital Marketing Intern
Cannabis Dispensary — Long Island, New York
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, motivated, and reliable Social Media & Digital Marketing Intern to help grow the online presence of our licensed cannabis dispensary on Long Island.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a college student studying marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, advertising, film, or a related field. The ideal candidate understands current social media trends, enjoys creating engaging content, and is comfortable working collaboratively with our dispensary team.
The intern will visit the dispensary for a few hours each week to film content, brainstorm ideas, develop campaigns, and work with team members to create authentic and entertaining content. Additional planning, editing, design, and analytics work may be completed remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and manage content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Google Business Profile, and other relevant platforms.
- Develop a consistent weekly and monthly social media content calendar.
- Film and edit short-form videos, educational content, product features, employee spotlights, promotional content, and entertaining skits.
- Collaborate with dispensary employees and leadership to brainstorm and produce original content.
- Design graphics, flyers, promotional materials, social media posts, menus, and event announcements.
- Write captions, promotional copy, blog content, and other marketing materials.
- Research social media trends, trending audio, hashtags, and content opportunities relevant to cannabis and the Long Island community.
- Help improve local SEO, website visibility, Google Business Profile performance, and search rankings.
- Assist with email marketing, text-message campaigns, blog posts, and website content.
- Help plan and execute compliant digital advertising and promotional campaigns.
- Coordinate content collaborations with cannabis brands, vendors, influencers, community organizations, and local businesses.
- Promote dispensary events, product launches, brand activations, educational events, and community initiatives.
- Monitor social media comments, messages, reviews, and customer engagement.
- Track performance using social media insights, Google Analytics, website data, and campaign reporting tools.
- Prepare monthly reports covering audience growth, engagement, reach, website traffic, conversions, and campaign performance.
- Recommend improvements based on analytics and customer engagement.
- Maintain organized digital files, content folders, brand assets, and campaign materials.
- Ensure all content follows company branding, New York cannabis regulations, platform policies, and responsible marketing practices.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, graphic design, digital media, film, photography, or a similar field.
- Strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and current social media trends.
- Experience creating and editing short-form video content.
- Basic graphic-design experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools.
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable appearing on camera when needed and directing team members during content creation.
- Able to work independently while collaborating with a fast-paced retail team.
- Creative, dependable, professional, and willing to take initiative.
- Comfortable working in and creating content for the legal cannabis industry.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be able to travel to our Long Island dispensary for scheduled weekly content sessions.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or similar creative software.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Meta Business Suite, email marketing platforms, and social media scheduling tools.
- Understanding of SEO, local SEO, keyword research, and website content optimization.
- Photography, videography, lighting, or audio-production experience.
- Previous experience managing a business, organization, club, or personal social media account.
- Familiarity with cannabis culture, cannabis products, or New York’s regulated cannabis market.
- Experience working with influencers, brand partnerships, events, or promotional campaigns.
Schedule
- Part-time internship.
- Approximately 8–15 hours per week, depending on availability and business needs.
- Must be available to work onsite at the Long Island dispensary for a few hours each week.
- Remaining work may be completed remotely when appropriate.
- Some evening or weekend availability may be requested for special events, product launches, or content opportunities.

Compensation
This is a paid internship, with compensation based on experience, availability, and the requirements of the student’s college program. Academic credit may also be available where applicable.
