The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals for clients in a residential substance use treatment setting. This role involves planning menus, managing grocery and inventory needs, and running day-to-day kitchen operations with a high degree of independence. Consistent, quality meals play a meaningful role in client comfort and daily structure, and the Cook helps create a stable, welcoming environment as part of the broader treatment experience. The ideal candidate takes ownership of the kitchen, communicates proactively with leadership about needs, and works well alongside clinical and house staff to support the overall rhythm of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals for clients according to planned menus
- Assist in planning and developing weekly/monthly menus
- Create and maintain grocery lists based on menu needs
- Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory; notify management proactively when restocking is needed
- Manage day-to-day kitchen operations with minimal supervision
- Accommodate special diets, food allergies, or restrictions as directed by clinical staff
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen in accordance with health and safety codes
- Follow proper food storage, labeling, and handling procedures
- Coordinate meal timing with house/clinical schedules (groups, activities, etc.)
- Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations without constant oversight
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Understanding of and commitment to client confidentiality (HIPAA)
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [25–50] lbs
- Flexibility to work weekends/holidays as needed (residential facility operates 24/7)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior food service industry experience
- Prior kitchen or staff management experience
- ServSafe or equivalent food handler certification
