General Summary:
As a key member of our behavioral health staff, this position will make significant difference by helping behavioral health clients engage in treatment and wellness by sharing one’s own successes and challenges on the road to recovery. This peer role supports clients and their recovery. The peer-to-peer assistant is an individual with lived experience who reaches out daily to clients who need additional support to stay engaged in treatment. Encourages and promotes wellness and recovery through mutual support, self-help training, and advocacy for mental health consumers. Initiates and participates in the development and implementation of program activities for peer-to peer drop in.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Facilitates groups and activities that help empower consumers to develop mutual support for each other.
2. Provides support and encouragement to help consumers become involved in community activities.
3. Provides practical help, mentoring, and advocacy to consumers.
4. Assists with the development and maintenance of a resource library.
5. Advocates for consumers and positive mental health service.
6. Assists with the development and dissemination of a monthly calendar.
7. Assists with providing community awareness presentations throughout the year.
8. Networks with a variety of consumer and provider groups.
9. Be trained and certified, and offer periodic training to others for certification, in the
WRAP model.
10. Participate on the local Mental Health Advisory Board.
This position requires compliance with Charles County Freedom Landing, Inc. Standards of Conduct and applicable policies and procedures. Such compliance will be considered as part of a regular performance appraisal. Failure to comply with the CCFL’s standards, including the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
1. Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Prior experience with the public mental health system in Maryland. Preference will be given to a consumer of the mental health system.
4. Ability to communicate in the English language, clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing. Also, must be comfortable with public speaking in both large and small group settings.
5. Ability to establish a positive rapport with people.
6. Valid driver’s license, driving record, and driver insurance in accordance with Maryland Mental Hygiene Regulations.
7. Must be able to drive a 15-passenger van.
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
