WBBZ-TV is a locally owned television station serving Western New York with broadcast, digital, and community-focused advertising opportunities. We work with local businesses, agencies, and organizations to create effective advertising campaigns across television, digital platforms, sponsorships, and local programming.
We are looking for an experienced Sales Manager to lead our advertising sales team, grow revenue, develop new business, and strengthen relationships with clients and agencies throughout the Buffalo market.
Position Overview
The Sales Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day sales operations, overseeing Account Executives, developing revenue strategies, and driving new and existing business across local and agency accounts.
This role requires a strong background in media sales, preferably in television, broadcast, cable, radio, digital advertising, or another related media environment. The ideal candidate has prior experience leading a sales team, managing client relationships, and building advertising campaigns that deliver results.
Responsibilities
The Sales Manager will:
Oversee and manage the WBBZ-TV sales team, including Account Executives and sales support staff.
Develop and execute sales strategies to increase local, regional, agency, and digital advertising revenue.
Set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals for the team and individual sales representatives.
Monitor sales activity, pipelines, pacing, projections, and revenue performance.
Train, coach, and motivate Account Executives to improve prospecting, presentations, closing, and account management.
Assist with developing advertising packages, sponsorship opportunities, and custom client campaigns.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, advertising agencies, media buyers, and community partners.
Identify new business opportunities and help generate new client accounts.
Review proposals, contracts, sales orders, and client campaigns for accuracy and profitability.
Work closely with station management, production, traffic, and business office staff to ensure campaigns run properly.
Help resolve client concerns and maintain a high level of customer service.
Attend client meetings, community events, and station-related business functions when needed.
Provide regular sales reports, forecasts, and updates to station leadership.
Requirements
Qualified candidates should have:
Prior experience in media sales management, preferably in television, broadcast, cable, radio, digital advertising, or a related media sales environment.
A proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
Experience managing, training, or mentoring sales representatives.
Strong understanding of local direct sales, agency business, advertising schedules, sponsorships, and campaign development.
Ability to prospect, present, negotiate, and close advertising deals.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Comfortable working with sales reports, revenue pacing, budgets, projections, and client proposals.
Ability to build long-term relationships with clients, agencies, and internal team members.
Professional appearance and strong customer-service mindset.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for client meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the Buffalo or Western New York media market.
Existing relationships with local businesses, agencies, or media buyers.
Knowledge of television advertising, digital advertising, OTT/streaming, social media advertising, or video production.
Experience using CRM systems, sales tracking tools, or broadcast traffic/order systems.
