Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; in the area of education preferred

Master’s Degree Preferred

School counseling and academic advising background required
-
Workforce development background preferred

Excellent oral and written communication skills
-
Knowledge and understanding of professional ethics

Demonstrated successful leadership experience preferred
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provides focus on individual student needs
-
Educates students and families on financial aid and coordinate events regarding financial aid for students and families
-
Educates students and families on scholarship searches and applications
-
Provides students with interest inventories, internship programs, and supports CTE pathways programs
-
Provides skills needed for college readiness: applications, college visits, admissions processes
-
Monitors students graduation status, postsecondary plans and transition services
-
Uses rapport building techniques with students, respecting each as a unique individual and accepting his/her right to have values that are different from the counselor’s
-
Registers new students
-
Evaluates transcripts of new students
-
Plans and coordinates orientation and registration programs
-
Updates and publicizes the Registration Handbook
-
Assists with the Danville High School testing programs such as ACT, AP testing and common assessments
-
Assists all students and parents with individual academic program planning, scheduling course changes and withdrawals, when appropriate
-
Initiates withdrawal procedures
-
Makes educationally sound schedule changes, and accurately completes changes in Skyward student database
-
Plan and implement academic awards ceremonies
-
Assists the Board of Education with its commitment of fair and equal treatment for all persons, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, or physical handicap in all employment practices

Maintains standards specified in Professional Performance Expectations for District 118 Employees

Wages, hours, terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board and the Danville Education Association for a 180-day contract with 15 additional days
