Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and accession patient specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Verify patient demographics, test orders, specimen identifiers, and required documentation
- Accession and appropriately label incoming PGx specimens, including buccal/oral swab specimens
- Identify specimen discrepancies and follow established procedures for specimen rejection or resolution
- Sort, organize, route, and store specimens according to laboratory SOPs
- Assist with specimen preparation and other pre-analytical activities within the permitted scope of the position
- Maintain accurate specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation, when applicable
- Assist with specimen storage, retrieval, retention, and disposal
- Prepare specimens and laboratory materials for shipment as needed
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and maintaining laboratory reagents, consumables, and supplies
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with restocking and supply orders
- Assist with routine laboratory logs, documentation, and record maintenance
- Scan and upload requisitions and supporting documentation into appropriate systems
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked accessioning and laboratory work areas
- Assist qualified laboratory personnel with general laboratory workflow and operational activities
Basic Required Qualifications:
· High School Diploma; AS or BS strongly preferred
· 1+ years of experience equivalent to an Accessioning/Laboratory Technician preferred
· Proficient with MS Office programs
· Ability to communicate effectively
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Ability to work independently
· Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
