The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from start to finish. This role requires hands-on construction knowledge with a strong background in carpentry and plumbing to assist with project scheduling, subcontractor coordination, quality control, budgeting, and jobsite management. The APM serves as a key liaison between field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager in managing all phases of construction projects.
- Coordinate daily jobsite activities, schedules, and subcontractor work.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or issues.
- Review construction plans, specifications, and project documents.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
- Utilize carpentry and plumbing expertise to evaluate work quality, troubleshoot field issues, and provide technical guidance.
- Assist in estimating labor, materials, and project costs.
- Coordinate material deliveries and maintain inventory as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards.
- Prepare project reports, schedules, change orders, and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and final inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of construction experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in carpentry and plumbing.
- Knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and field crews.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Construction Foreman, Lead Carpenter, Lead Plumber, or Assistant Project Manager.
