What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. Conditions of Employment

- Requires ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather types. Requires ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; requires ability to push carts with more than 100 lbs weight on them. Must be able to wear required safety shoes and gloves. Requires ability to walk long distances. Requires ability to stand for up to 4 hours at time. Requires ability to climb ladders.
- Requires skill distinguishing among shades of colors. Requires ability to hear accurately below 80 dB SPL.
