American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PACU position requiring 1 year of PACU experience and a WV or compact RN license.
-
Acute care setting in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) - Phase 1 with 14 beds
-
Nurse to patient ratio of 1:1-2
-
Common cases include general, ortho, urology (approx 70%), vascular, and podiatry
-
ICU patients recover in this unit
-
Uses Cerner EMR, transitioning to Epic in April 2025
-
RT and Anesthesia support available on the unit
-
No nurse aides on the unit
-
RNs are expected to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
-
Day shift schedule with 4 nine-hour shifts per week (7-4:30 or 8-5:30)
-
No floating required
-
Call required: one weeknight per week (end of shift to start of next shift) and one weekend per month (24-hour Sat or Sun shift)

May be required to participate in holiday call rotation

Call response time is 30 minutes

Active WV or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
-
Minimum 1 year of PACU experience required

Experience managing ventilated patients required
-
BSN not required for this position

Valid driver's license required for consideration

Conduct postoperative assessments and monitor patient recovery in the PACU
-
Provide pain management and implement recovery protocols
-
Educate patients and families on postoperative care, medications, and follow-up appointments
-
Charge nurse typically carries a light patient assignment
-
3-5 days of unit-specific orientation provided with a preceptor
-
Navy blue scrubs required
-
Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility

Local candidates are not accepted for this position

Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
-
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively before taking a required 2-year break
