American Traveler is seeking an experienced Surgical Assistant with a strong CVOR background for a hospital-based cardiovascular and thoracic surgery position at a Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility in Milwaukee, WI.

Work in an 8-bed CVOR unit at a 938-bed Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility in Milwaukee, WI
-
Patient population includes cardiovascular and thoracic cases: CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and Fem-Pop bypass

Averages 10 cases per day with a 1:1 patient ratio

Travelers in this role will circulate only — each case is staffed with two RNs (Circulator and Med RN)

10-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday, with start times between 0530–0630
-
On-call requirement includes one weekend per month (24-hour call, Saturday and Sunday 0700–0700), end-of-shift call up to once per week, and one holiday per contract
-
30-minute call response time required; no sleep room available

Holiday coverage is on-call only, as needed

No floating required

Epic EMR required; facility also uses Alaris, Pyxis, and Da Vinci XI

Minimum of 2 years of surgical assistant experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Strong CVOR background across all specialties with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance

BLS certification required

Graduation from an accredited surgical assistant program required

CSFA certification preferred

Epic EMR experience required

Active license required, if applicable

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Assist with cardiovascular and thoracic surgical cases including open heart procedures, robotic thoracic surgeries, and electrophysiology-related cases

Support provided by a Department Supervisor and Manager, a non-case-assigned Team Lead, a Surgical Assistant Lead for instrumentation and preference cards, and a House Supervisor available 24/7

Anesthesia support available 24/7

Weekend staffing includes a shared OR Supervisor and a small program staff team

Two-week orientation provided

Facility follows a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts

Scrubs are provided by the facility

Cafeteria and Starbucks on site for staff

RTO of up to 7 days is approvable; additional time off requests require further approval
