GENERAL PURPOSE
The Watchperson patrols Gracedale Nursing Home buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports directly to the Housekeeping Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Patrols grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles, using flashlight in poorly lighted areas.
Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure. Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency entrance.
Responds to all reports of possible unauthorized personnel on premises and takes action according to prescribed procedures. Confronts authorized person(s) for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances.
Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and facility personnel in event of fire or extinguishes fire using extinguisher.
Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems to appropriate personnel.
Performs miscellaneous janitorial work as assigned, which may include retrieving items from storeroom, sweeping and mopping floors/areas as needed, and gathering and disposing of trash. Other janitorial duties as necessary.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma; AND
Prior experience as a fireman, policeman, or watchman is preferred, but not required; AND
All employees of Gracedale Nursing Home will be required to attend Feeding Program training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as making tours of buildings and grounds.
Ability to remain alert and make decisions in an emergency situation.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Telephone, flashlight, trash cart, laundry cart, broom, mop, and fire extinguisher.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
