Description:
The repair foreman’s top priority is ensuring that all asphalt machinery and infrastructure are in optimum working order. The role involves a strategic blend of hands-on technical expertise and leadership, guiding a small crew through routine checks, emergency repairs, and long-term improvement projects and plans.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Coordinate the daily activities of a 2–3-man crew through scheduled maintenance and repairs.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Allocate resources, including personnel, tools, and materials, for maintenance projects and routine tasks.
- Meet with contractors and service providers for specialized maintenance or repair services, overseeing their work to ensure quality and compliance.
- Train maintenance staff in new procedures, safety protocols, and the use of equipment and tools, enhancing team skills and knowledge.
- Manage maintenance inventory, ordering supplies and parts as needed while keeping within budget constraints.
- Document maintenance activities, including repairs made, parts used, and time spent, to maintain accurate records for planning and budgeting purposes.
- Foster a positive team culture, ensuring a motivating and respectful environment that promotes high morale and productivity.
- Enforce safety protocols in accordance with OSHA standards and company policies, ensuring the health and safety of all team members while on the job.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Considerable experience in asphalt plant mechanics and expert-level experience with a torch and welder.
- Solid leadership and organizational skills with the ability to adjust plans quickly in high-stress situations.
- Experience managing projects, dealing with contractors and vendors to ensure predetermined schedules and timelines are met.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with vendors, other managers, and support departments.
- Ability to operate tractor, forklift, and manlift.
Requirements:
- Must have a valid Class C driver’s license.
- Driver record cannot contain any reckless driving offences, DUIs, leaving the scene of an accident, etc.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions and to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling, and/or action/discipline.
