Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary orthodontic instruments, materials, and supplies for each patient appointment
- Assist orthodontists during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, elastics, and appliance installations with precision and care
- Take and develop dental x-rays using advanced imaging technology like 3D scanners and ensure proper documentation in electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Maintain strict infection prevention management by following aseptic techniques, sterilizing dental instruments, and adhering to clinical confidentiality policies in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry cases
- Monitor vital signs when necessary, document medical information accurately, and assist with medical documentation and coding procedures
- Support dental sterilization procedures and ensure all clinical areas meet infection control standards for a safe environment
Experience
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment, preferably with orthodontic or pediatric dentistry specialties
- Familiarity with dental assisting procedures including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and dental terminology
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic or similar healthcare software is a plus
- Knowledge of dental x-ray techniques, oral surgery support, endodontics, prosthodontics, and general dentistry procedures
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively using medical terminology; experience supporting pediatric patients is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in four-handed dentistry setups while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies
