POSITION: Lead Teacher
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for planning and implementing an individualized, developmentally appropriate educational program for children and ensuring the delivery of holistic, integrated services to children and their families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans and implements an individualized, developmentally appropriate educational program for one classroom of children.
- Coordinates with the Family Service Worker to maintain an adequate social services referral system for coordinating the resolution of family needs and goals to promote family strengthening.
- Assists with parent education and support program for all assigned families.
- Demonstrate high-quality language models in all their languages and strongly support continued home language development.
- Ensures supervision of children at all times.
- Provides quality services to children and families.
- Promotes parent involvement.
- Completes and maintains all required records, child/family files, reports, and Agency paperwork, timely and accurately.
- Provides leadership to team members.
- Assists Site Supervisor as needed.
- Primarily responsible for ensuring all services are provided to children assigned to their classroom.
- Participates in professional development and opportunities for growth.
- Ability to drive, including travel to multiple sites, home visits, trainings, etc.
- Demonstrates on-going professionalism.

- Responsible for maximizing and documentation of in-kind contributions.

JOB CONDITIONS
- Physical effort as a part of the regular work routine. This includes: seeing, hearing, frequent writing, driving, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling, prolonged periods of sitting, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, which may include infrequent lifting of children, and carrying of lightweight materials.
- Required mental functions: reading, calculating simple math, and withstanding moderate to high levels of stress.
WORK HABITS
- Required work habits include regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or a waiver may be requested if an applicant has a current preschool CDA credential or a state awarded certificate for center-based preschool teacher that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA, and applicant must commit to obtaining an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Hiring is contingent on approval of the waiver or;
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education with a minimum of 30 college credits in Early Childhood Education; and
- A Lead Teacher/Advocate hired after November 7, 2016, must have within 18 months of hire, at a minimum, a credential or certification of social work, human services, counseling, or related field and;
- Experience teaching preschool children.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of interview process.
- Verification of personal and employment references.
- Hiring approval by Policy Council.
- Successful completion of a criminal history background check. Before a person is hired the Agency must conduct a sex offender registry check and obtain one of the following, state or tribal criminal history records, fingerprint check; or Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal history records, including fingerprint checks. The Agency has 90 days after an employee is hired to complete the background check process by obtaining whichever check listed above was not obtained prior to the date of hire and the child abuse and neglect state registry check, if available.
- Must pass an initial and periodic Washington State Department of Children, Youth, & Families (DCYF) background check.
- Initial health examination including screening for tuberculosis and a periodic re-examination to assure that the candidate does not, because of communicable diseases, pose a significant risk to the health and safety of others in the program that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation consistent with the requirements of Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. [45 CFR Part 1302.93(a)]
- Valid Washington State food handler’s permit.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, provide proof of current liability automobile insurance, maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record (insurable by the Agency’s insurance carrier), and ability to provide own reliable transportation.
- Acceptable driving record in order to be able to drive during the course of daily Agency business.
