American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post-Surgical Care (Med/Surg Tele) position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 18 months of PCU experience and regional floating availability.

Post-Surgical Care unit within a 457-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital

Unit features 20 beds, including 3 Progressive Care (PCU) beds

Patient population includes HPB surgical patients (Whipple procedures, liver resections, distal pancreas/spleen, pancreatitis), women's surgery (hysterectomies, mastectomies), and plastic surgery (DIEP flap breast reconstruction, panniculectomy)

Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8

Specialized skills performed include drain care, central line management, G/J tube care, heparin and cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement/management, and management of various surgical drains

EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; unit equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, bedside tele monitors in PCU rooms, and Patient Safety Net

12-hour night shifts, 1845–0715, 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation every other weekend

Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH pediatrics) — candidates who are not willing to float to all facilities within the region should not apply

No on-call or call-back requirements

Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Epic EMR experience preferred

Must permanently reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered

Facility is a designated Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence

Unit support includes CNAs (capable of blood draws, foley insertion/removal, and standard patient care), a charge nurse available for assistance with patient care and admissions, an IV/VAT team available as an in-hospital consult, resource nurse mentors on night shift, and a telemetry monitoring technician

Orientation includes hospital-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any unmet contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract

Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
