Walnut & Park Café is more than a neighborhood coffee shop—it is a vocational training program operated by KPEP that helps returning citizens develop the skills, confidence, and work ethic needed to successfully reenter the workforce. As Café Coordinator, you'll help lead daily operations while mentoring students who are rebuilding their lives through meaningful employment and hands-on training.
Position Overview
You'll partner with the Food Service Director to oversee daily café operations, ensure exceptional customer service, train employees and vocational students, manage inventory and cash handling, and serve as the operational leader whenever the Director is away.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead daily café operations and provide outstanding customer service.
· Train, mentor, and coach vocational students and café staff.
· Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing staff development.
· Ensure quality food and beverage preparation and product knowledge.
· Assist with scheduling, labor management, inventory, ordering, and waste control.
· Oversee cash handling and shift accountability.
· Maintain a clean, safe, organized café environment.
· Resolve customer and staff concerns professionally.
· Support initiatives that improve sales, efficiency, and profitability.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED.
· 1–3 years of restaurant, café, retail, or food service experience.
· Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
· Excellent customer service and communication skills.
· Cash handling/POS experience.
· Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
· Passion for coaching others and helping people succeed.
· Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
