Duties
- Safely operate various types of trucks including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and refrigerated trailers across designated local routes.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring cargo integrity and safety compliance.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to adhere to delivery schedules and optimize routes.
- Transport hazardous materials and dangerous goods in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, including hours of service, vehicle inspections, and safety standards.
- Load, secure, and unload cargo with precision, ensuring proper handling of freight such as refrigerated goods, freight containers, or specialty loads like tanker or roll-off trucks.
- Document delivery activities accurately, including delivery logs, inspection reports, and incident reports as needed.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, delivery driving, or logistics cargo handling within a local setting.
- Strong knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures and route driving best practices.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, and other specialized equipment.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Excellent navigation skills utilizing GPS systems to follow assigned routes accurately.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.
- Physical ability to handle manual loading/unloading tasks and operate equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with dispatch teams and reporting issues promptly.
