Medical Front Desk receptionist arranges for efficient and orderly checking in and out of patients for eye surgeons.
Locations: Primarily working out of Pasadena and Whittier, with potential to work in West Covina and Pomona offices, will require travel between offices
Full Time Position: 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri; hours 8:30a to 5:00p
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets and registers patients, ensuring demographic, insurance, and contact information is accurate and up to date.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits and updates patient records accordingly.
- Obtains and tracks prior authorizations, referrals, and other payer requirements to ensure timely patient care and reimbursement.
- Schedules, reschedules, and confirms appointments while coordinating provider schedules and office resources.
- Collects copayments, deductibles, balances, and other patient payments; posts payments accurately and issues receipts.
- Prepares and maintains patient registration documents, including face sheets and required intake forms.
- Answers and triages incoming telephone calls, voicemails, faxes, portal messages, and other communications, directing inquiries to the appropriate department when necessary.
- Provides excellent customer service by addressing patient questions regarding appointments, insurance, financial responsibilities, and office policies.
- Coordinates communication between patients, providers, clinical staff, and outside facilities to facilitate continuity of care.
- Assists with medical records, document scanning, fax processing, and accurate indexing of patient documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Maintains front office supply inventory, monitors stock levels, and notifies management when replenishment is needed.
- Supports daily clinic operations by ensuring work queues, patient flow, and administrative tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, company policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Performs additional administrative and operational duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- One year experience in healthcare setting required. Ideally experience in an ophthalmology or optometry office.
- High School Graduate with computer experience (must be comfortable with Electronic Medical Record software as well as Microsoft Word and Excel).
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to multi-task in a busy environment required given some clients are cosmetic patients.
