Calibrates and tests microprocessor-based, solid-state, and electromechanical protective relays using both manual and computer-based test equipment. Assists engineers to ensure that all transmission lines, substations, and generating station equipment is properly protected from abnormal system conditions through the proper installation, checkout, and maintenance of protective relays and other equipment and their associated control circuitry. Installs and maintains disturbance monitoring equipment and engineering access network infrastructure. Assists in the documentation and assessment of NERC PRC and CIP programs for compliance. Also, assists in the training of relay technicians and entry level engineers.
Essential Job Tasks:
- Tests and calibrates relays at/for transmission, industrial, and distribution substations.
- Ensures correct calibration and operation of these relays.
- Tests generator protection relays. Understand various functions on these relays and assist others as needed.
- Builds test plans to facilitate testing.
- Performs maintenance and troubleshooting of fault recorder, event recorder, and SPC device communications equipment.
- Adheres to NERC CIP and O&P (company and SPC) policies and provides accurate compliance documentation for all work with no supervision.
- Assists other groups (SPC-Const. and Maintenance, Generation, external customers, etc.) with troubleshooting relays and associated equipment.
- Responds to issues with protection and control equipment with other staff and troubleshoot affected equipment.
- Rotational on-call status for 24/7 response during call is required.

Position Requirements:
Power Service Technician A
- High School Diploma/GED + 5 years experience required.
- Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics + 3 years experience preferred.
- Must be proficient with computers and various software.
Compensation Information:
$41.05 - $51.25 (min. - mid.)
Power Service Technician B
- High School Diploma/GED + 2 years experience required.
- Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics + 1 year experience preferred.
- Must be proficient with computers and various software.
Compensation Information:
$30.05 - $37.55 (min. - mid.)
Power Service Technician C
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Must be proficient with computers and various software.
