Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using proper manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates, ensuring accurate documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support patients with medication administration under supervision, adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Assist clinical staff with medical procedures such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, phlebotomy procedures, and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Facilitate patient transfers using safe transfer methods and equipment while practicing heavy lifting safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure clear understanding of care plans and patient needs.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control policies and proper sanitation practices aligned with hospital or long-term care standards.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse populations including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, behavioral health needs, or pediatric patients.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) procedures including CPR.
- Experience in acute care settings like ICU or Level I Trauma Centers is highly desirable; familiarity with emergency medicine protocols is a plus.
- Skilled in patient transfer methods using assistive devices like Hoyer lifts and practicing safe manual handling techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments such as hospital medicine, urgent care, or post-acute care facilities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong caregiver communication skills coupled with a commitment to patient service excellence; experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is advantageous.
