American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience and Epic proficiency.

24-bed Pediatric ICU unit within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital

Average patient census of 21–23 patients
-
Patient population includes respiratory illness, trauma (penetrating and non-accidental), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical cases, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants (kidney and whole/partial liver), complex medical conditions, and blood disorders
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2

EMR: Epic (experience required)

IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
-
Additional equipment includes Belmont Rapid Infuser, Arctic Sun, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring), EV-1000 Vigileo, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, I-Stat, and Accuryn

Medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips systems

Day shift: 0645–1915; Night shift: 1845–0715; 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays per 6-week scheduling cycle

Schedule cycles run every 6 weeks

Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Pediatrics

No on-call requirements for travelers

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS and PALS certifications required
-
Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Proficiency with critical care skills including vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (arterial lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, CRRT, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, and sedation/analgesic drip management
-
Experience with Arctic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, and Belmont Rapid Infuser preferred
-
Experience with g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, Foley insertion, and oral/nasal suctioning required

Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU (assessed during interview)

Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration

Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible

Unit is supported 24/7 by a charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, intensivists, residents, and APPs
-
Each shift is also supported by a unit secretary and a CNA/healthcare tech for nursing support (bathing, rounding, etc.)

Centralized and bedside patient monitoring in use (no telemetry monitoring tech)

Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays; unit requirement is the eve and day of every other holiday while contracted
-
RTO requires manager approval
