Position Summary
All Steel is seeking an experienced CNC Operator to run our structural steel cutting equipment. This role is focused on the technical execution of our cutting operations, ensuring that pre-programmed nesting and cutting files are executed with high precision and efficiency across our CNC machines. The ideal candidate is a "machine master" who understands how to dial in settings for a clean cut, maintains a rigorous maintenance schedule, and ensures a steady flow of accurate parts to our fitting and welding teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate CNC cutting equipment (plasma and related structural steel machines) to execute pre-programmed nesting and cutting files across various gauges and sizes of steel.
- Parameter Optimization: Adjust cutting height, gas pressures, amperage, and feed rates to achieve clean cuts and minimize dross based on specific material types and thicknesses.
- Consumable Management: Monitor and replace electrodes, nozzles, shields, and other consumables proactively to maintain cut quality and maximize machine uptime.
- Technical Quality Control: Verify part dimensions against shop drawings and cut lists using calipers, tape measures, and squares to ensure every piece meets All Steel's tolerance standards.
- Material Logistics: Efficiently load raw material and unload finished components using overhead cranes and forklifts, ensuring parts are organized for the next stage of fabrication.
- Routine Maintenance: Perform daily machine cleaning, slag/scrap removal, and preventative maintenance to prevent unplanned downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor mechanical or electronic issues at the controller to keep production moving.
- Cross-Training: Learn and run multiple CNC cutting machines as production needs shift, rather than being tied to a single piece of equipment.
- Safety & Organization: Maintain a clean, professional work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience operating CNC cutting systems (plasma, laser, or similar structural steel equipment).
- Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret structural shop drawings and understand how they translate to physical parts.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of cutting physics, including the relationship between speed, amperage/power, and gas selection.
- Precision Mindset: High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and material conservation.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a high-output shop environment for extended periods.
- Reliability: A track record of punctuality and a commitment to meeting production deadlines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
- Paid holidays and vacation
- Health and dental insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Opportunities for overtime and advancement within the company
