Licensed Cosmetologist / Kids’ Hair Stylist

We’re looking for a Licensed Cosmetologist / Kids’ Hair Stylist who is patient, dependable, friendly, and genuinely enjoys working with children. Our salon serves children of all ages and abilities, including kids who may need extra time, patience, flexibility, or a calmer approach during their haircut.
Newly licensed cosmetologists are encouraged to apply! You do not need years of experience or previous experience in a children’s salon. We’re happy to work with someone who is eager to learn, takes direction well, and wants to strengthen their haircutting skills.
This is a haircut-focused position, with services primarily consisting of children’s and adult haircuts, trims, clipper cuts, and basic styling.
This position will begin at approximately 24 hours per week, with the opportunity for additional hours as Snips & Spikes continues to grow and appointment demand increases. We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with our salon and become part of a supportive, family-friendly team.
Pay
$10-12/hour guaranteed base pay + tips
With tips, stylists have the potential to earn up to approximately $28/hour in total compensation, depending on appointment volume and tips received. Tips are not guaranteed and will vary.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality haircuts and basic styling services for children and adults
- Create a positive, fun, and comfortable haircut experience for kids
- Work patiently with children who may be nervous, wiggly, shy, or unsure about haircuts
- Adapt your approach for children with sensory differences, disabilities, or additional support needs
- Communicate kindly and professionally with parents, caregivers, and clients
- Keep salon areas, tools, and equipment clean and properly sanitized
- Follow all North Carolina cosmetology sanitation and safety requirements
- Help keep shared salon areas clean, organized, and welcoming
- Work cooperatively with other team members
- Assist with basic salon duties during slower periods
- Be open to learning new haircutting techniques and approaches
Qualifications & Experience
- Current North Carolina Cosmetology License required
- Newly licensed cosmetologists are welcome and encouraged to apply
- Previous salon experience is preferred, but not required
- Children’s haircutting experience is a plus, but not required
- Willing to learn and continue developing haircutting skills
- Interested in a position primarily focused on children’s and adult haircuts
- Patient and comfortable working with children of different ages, personalities, abilities, and communication styles
- Experience working with autistic, sensory-sensitive, or neurodivergent children is a plus, but not required
- Friendly and professional communication skills
- Dependable and able to arrive on time for scheduled shifts and appointments
- Willing to learn our approach to creating positive haircut experiences for children
- Able to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
