SCHOOL NURSE
JOB DESCRIPTION
ANDERSON COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists administrators in developing school health program.
2. Routinely checks degree of student illness and makes determination concerning a
student’s need to return to class or to be sent home.
3. Administers routine first aid when on duty.
4. Participates in work of health curriculum committee and AIDS Advisory Committee.
5. Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight
and hearing testing as directed by the principal.
6. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
7. Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects.
8. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
9. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies
about student health matters, as directed by the principal.
10. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or
staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
11. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
12. Administers approved medications.
13. Makes recommendations to administrators and staff on health needs of individual
students.
14. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with
infectious and contagious diseases.
15. Participates in in-service training programs.
16. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
