The Sweet Wheel Farm, is seeking a farmer’s market attendant to join our team. As a non-profit organization, Santa Barbara Agriculture and Farm Education Foundation, we operate a daily farmstand that showcases the chemical-free produce of Sweet Wheel Farms in Summerland. Our farmers market serves as a platform for selling fresh produce directly to the community and chefs. Unlike many other farms, we prioritize organic farming practices, avoiding the use of chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. Additionally, we have a weekly healthy farm food project that delivers nutritious food to over 1,600 individuals in Santa Barbara County. Volunteers play a crucial role in assisting our staff with farming tasks and loading bags that align with our weekly recipes.
The responsibilities of a farmer’s market attendant encompass engaging with clients and providing exceptional service. As a farmer’s market attendant, you will assist clients at checkout with professionalism, recognizing that we are more than just a grocery store. We rely on our clients to support our non-profit’s mission of serving our community. Additionally, you will receive tips from customers as a form of compensation.
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the farm stand throughout the day is of utmost importance. We ensure that everything looks appealing for consumption and that the produce is well-stocked. In between tasks, you will engage in various activities such as winnowing beans, ensuring the optimal condition of berries, providing water to fresh flowers, hydrating and packing fresh herbs, and sorting the produce.
We must store the produce to preserve its safety for consumption. Upon opening, we will carefully bring out the produce and conduct thorough inspections to ensure that we are selling the freshest items available.
