PURPOSE
Lead the development, quality, and consistency of all written and narrative content across APA channels. Ensure communications are clear, timely, audience-focused, and aligned with APA priorities while supporting member engagement and effective communication with internal and external audiences.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
EXPERIENCE
- 3–5+ years of experience in digital content writing or communications
SKILLS
- Strong digital content experience
- Strong understanding of content strategy and digital engagement best practices
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Experience managing editorial calendars and content workflows

DUTIES
Content Strategy and Editorial Management
- Own and manage the editorial calendar across all communication channels, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and campaigns
- Oversee a dynamic content ecosystem, adapting messaging across channels and formats to include (but not be limited to) email, app, website, video & podcast topics, speechwriting, and social media themes
- Ensure all communication efforts and editorial priorities support APA objectives, member engagement, and strategic communications campaigns
- Lead campaign-based content development from concept through execution
Content Creation and Storytelling
- Produce high-quality, multi-channel content including email campaigns, website copy, social media campaign overarching narratives, scripts, and executive talking points
- Translate organizational priorities into content that American Airlines pilots understand, trust, and act upon in a manner that helps further the Association’s strategic goals
- Ensure content is optimized for readability, accessibility, and digital performance
- Ensure pilots remain the face, voice, and credibility of the Association
Messaging and Brand Consistency
- Ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency of voice and tone across all communications
- Maintain and enforce editorial standards, style guidelines, and approval workflows
- Uphold brand messaging and positioning in all written materials
- Ensure communications maintain the highest standards of fidelity, credibility, professionalism, and responsiveness
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Support the Digital Engagement Manager with content distribution and amplification
- Coordinate with the Communications Committee Chair and other pilot volunteers to ensure communication initiatives prominently feature pilots’ perspectives, and pilot subject matter expertise whenever practical and appropriate
- Collaborate with the Multimedia Designer to integrate visual storytelling and enhance content impact
- Work with internal stakeholders to gather insights and align messaging with organizational goals
- Incorporate member feedback, engagement trends, and analytics into content planning and development

- Increased member engagement and understanding of APA initiatives, programs, and priorities
- Improved content performance across all channels (open rates, click-through rates, shares, and conversions)
- Timeliness and consistency of content delivery
- Effective translation of organizational priorities into communications products that improve member understanding and engagement
- Quality, clarity, and appropriate tone of messaging across all channels
