Marion is seeking a 10-month, full-time, benefit position working five (5) hours per day (7:30 AM - 12:30 PM). The position includes full benefits and participation in the NYSED Retirement System.
The Cook prepares and cooks food in large quantities while following standardized recipes and food safety regulations. This role supports daily kitchen operations and may oversee meal preparation or assist in supervising kitchen staff under general supervision.
Job Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED); and
- One (1) year of full-time paid experience (or part-time equivalent) in large-scale cooking; or
- Three (3) years of full-time paid experience (or part-time equivalent) assisting in large-scale cooking
- Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities following standardized recipes
- Assist in planning and organizing meal preparation for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Maintain compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations, including HACCP procedures
- Operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment using proper cleaning methods and materials
- Follow production records, menus, recipes, and written/oral instructions accurately
- Adapt recipes and make substitutions as needed, including for therapeutic diets
- Monitor food portions and minimize waste
- Perform basic arithmetic calculations related to food preparation and service
- Supervise and support Assistant Cooks and Food Service Helpers as assigned
- Demonstrate working knowledge of large-quantity food preparation and kitchen techniques
- Utilize modern cooking equipment and technology, including basic computer use
- Multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and school personnel
- Perform other related duties as assigned
