American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and the ability to pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Float Pool position covering multiple Med/Surg Telemetry units within an acute care hospital setting
-
Primary float units are 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with additional float to 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds)

Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology (note: chemo administration is reserved for permanent staff)

Nurse-to-patient ratios are primarily 1:5-6 on both days and nights, depending on patient acuity

12-hour shifts available on both day (7a–7p) and night (7p–7a) rotations

Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for both day and night shifts)

Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; most units have monitor techs, but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips independently

CPAP and BiPap present on units; managed by Respiratory Therapy

CNAs are available on all units
-
Charge nurse present on every unit 24/7; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does

Epic EMR used; experience preferred

No drip titration required

Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Med/Surg Telemetry experience required; must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips

Must pass a facility-required cardiac rhythm/EKG exam prior to starting

A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Float Pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment and will likely be assigned a primary 'parent unit'

Travelers will be assigned basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice
-
Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
-
Holiday coverage is required and integrated into the permanent staff rotation schedule

Royal blue scrubs required

Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered; cumulative experience across WVU facilities applies, and travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year before a 2-year break is required
