We specialize in building custom steel solutions for the telecom and construction industries, including antenna mounts, equipment platforms, water tower supports, and other structural components. Our niche is not production work — we build a wide variety of one-off and short-run projects that require skill, adaptability, and attention to detail.
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Shop Lead Welder / Fabricator to lead daily shop production while working hands-on with the team. This role is ideal for someone who can take a set of drawings, think through the build, and execute it efficiently while maintaining quality.
This is not a repetitive production role. Every job is different, and the right candidate must be comfortable fabricating a wide range of custom parts and assemblies.
Duties
- Lead and support welders and fabricators on daily shop activities
- Set priorities and keep jobs moving to meet production schedules
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and cut lists
- Perform hands-on fabrication including layout, fitting, welding, cutting, and grinding
- Build custom parts and assemblies with strong attention to detail and quality
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues and adjust builds as needed
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Train and mentor less experienced employees
- Operate shop equipment including band saws, press brake, ironworker, plasma table, and forklift
Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of welding and steel fabrication experience (required)
- Strong background in custom fabrication (not just production work)
- Proven ability to read drawings and build parts accurately with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in MIG welding; FCAW experience preferred
- Strong fit-up skills and consistent weld quality
- Solid understanding of shop math, layout, and tolerances
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt to varying project requirements
- Experience safely operating fabrication equipment and handling materials
- Reliable, organized, and quality-focused
Preferred
- AWS D1.1 certification (current or prior; company support available)
- Experience with structural steel or telecom-related fabrication
- OSHA-10/30 or similar safety training
- Experience with forming and brake work
Work Environment & Schedule
- Indoor shop environment in Albuquerque, NM
- Monday–Friday day shift
- Overtime as needed
- No travel required
