PURPOSE :
The RN position promotes, coordinates, and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
The RN reports daily to the charge nurse/shift supervisor on his/her shift and in general to the VP/ CNO. He/she oversees the practice of and Certified Nurses Assistants assigned to his/her care team.
Environment :
The Clara Barton Hospital is a CAH licensed for 23 beds. The RN must possess the skills to care and advocate for all patients to include those in critical situations, requiring end of life care and those requiring rehabilitation to achieve their optimal level of health.
Physical Demands :
This position requires a full range of body motion including handling, lifting and moving patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination. The RN is required to stand and walk for extensive periods of time. This position may be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. The RN must be able to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Functions
The RN provides total patient care in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as, the ability to work as a team member. Specific patient care duties may include: admitting, observing and assessing patient care needs. Identifying nursing problems, a change in patient condition, and the establishment of patient care priorities. The RN must be able to provide direct patient care, communicate and keep the medical staff informed of changes in the patient condition if indicated and document appropriate patient care information in the EHR.
The RN is responsible to make all patient care assignments for their care team, supervise and evaluate the nursing care provided to their assigned patients on their scheduled shift. He/She delegates appropriate care duties.
This position also assists physicians during their patient rounds and treatments. This includes preparing the patient for examination, setting up equipment needed for treatment, carrying out ordered treatments and providing patient education as indicated.
