Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Memory Care Unit Nurse (RN/LPN) to deliver specialized nursing care to residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a passion for elder care, and experience working in memory care environments. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring residents’ safety, administering medications, and providing comprehensive assessments to support their well-being.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care tailored to the unique needs of residents with memory impairments, including medication administration and monitoring.
- Conduct thorough assessments of residents’ physical and mental health status, documenting findings accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that promote safety and quality of life.
- Monitor residents for signs of acute pain or behavioral changes, intervening promptly as needed.
- Educate residents’ families on disease progression, medication management, and available support services.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and state-specific standards for long-term care.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to aseptic techniques, infection control protocols, and proper catheter or ostomy care procedures.
Requirements
- Valid RN or LPN license in good standing; prior experience in memory care or dementia-specific settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of geriatric nursing practices, including Alzheimer’s and dementia care strategies.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic is desirable.
- Strong assessment skills with the ability to recognize early signs of deterioration or behavioral issues.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with residents’ families and healthcare teams.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in assisted living environments is a plus.
- Ability to handle complex cases involving acute pain management, medication administration, and triage procedures confidently.
