Overview
Humphrys Awnings is seeking a hands-on leader to take ownership of our retractable awning department. This position is responsible for transforming the department into a clean, organized, efficient operation that consistently produces high-quality products.
This is not a desk job. The successful candidate will lead by example, build alongside the team when needed, establish standards, improve processes, develop employees, and create a culture of accountability and pride in workmanship.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable organizing a shop, solving production problems, coaching employees, and ensuring every awning leaving the building meets our quality standards.
Primary ResponsibilitiesDepartment Leadership
- Lead and supervise the retractable awning production team.
- Establish clear expectations for quality, productivity, organization, and safety.
- Hold employees accountable while coaching and developing their skills.
- Conduct daily production meetings and assign work priorities.
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Production Management
- Manage daily production schedules to meet customer delivery dates.
- Ensure products are built correctly the first time.
- Balance labor, materials, and production capacity.
- Remove production bottlenecks and improve workflow.
- Assist with production during peak periods as needed.
Quality Control
- Own the quality of every retractable awning produced.
- Develop and maintain standardized build procedures.
- Create quality checkpoints throughout the build process.
- Investigate defects, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Reduce warranty claims, rework, and production errors.
Organization & Inventory
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional production area.
- Implement and sustain 5S workplace organization principles.
- Organize parts, hardware, and materials so every item has a designated location.
- Work with purchasing to maintain proper inventory levels.
- Eliminate wasted motion and unnecessary material handling.
Process Improvement
- Document standard operating procedures.
- Create visual work instructions and build checklists.
- Standardize hardware kits and production methods.
- Continuously improve efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Recommend equipment, tooling, and layout improvements.
Safety
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure proper use of equipment and PPE.
- Enforce company safety policies.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications
- 3+ years leading a manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, or custom production team.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proven ability to organize and improve manufacturing operations.
- Experience implementing standard work and process improvements.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Within the first six months, the successful candidate will:

- Establish quality checkpoints throughout production.
- Reduce production errors and warranty issues.
- Improve on-time delivery.
- Develop a high-performing, accountable production team.
- Build a department that operates consistently without constant management intervention.

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
