Position Summary
Cantina Lime is seeking a friendly, dependable, and professional Host or Hostess to create a welcoming first impression for every guest.
The host is responsible for greeting guests, managing the seating process, maintaining an organized front entrance, answering telephone calls, assisting with reservations and takeout orders, and supporting the service team during busy periods.
This position is ideal for someone who is outgoing, organized, calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
Primary Responsibilities
Greet every guest promptly and warmly upon arrival
Thank guests and invite them to return as they leave
Manage the waitlist and provide accurate estimated wait times
Seat guests fairly according to server rotation and restaurant capacity
Communicate special requests, large parties, and guest concerns to management and servers
Answer incoming telephone calls professionally
Assist with reservations, call-ahead seating, and large-party inquiries
Help coordinate online, telephone, and takeout orders when assigned
Keep menus, the host stand, waiting area, and entrance clean and organized
Monitor table availability and communicate with bussers and servers
Assist with resetting tables and maintaining dining-room readiness during busy periods
Recognize regular customers and help create a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere
Follow all restaurant policies, dress-code requirements, and safety procedures
Complete opening, shift-change, and closing duties
Guest-Service Expectations
The Host or Hostess is often the first and last team member a guest interacts with. Candidates must be able to:
Maintain a friendly and positive attitude
Speak clearly and professionally
Make eye contact and acknowledge guests immediately
Remain calm when the restaurant is busy
Handle wait times and seating concerns respectfully
Avoid gathering, sitting, using personal phones, or becoming distracted at the host stand
Communicate effectively with managers, servers, bussers, bartenders, and kitchen staff
Qualifications
Previous restaurant, retail, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required
Strong communication and organizational skills
Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Professional appearance and positive attitude
English proficiency required; bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
Must meet all applicable age and employment requirements
Uniform and Appearance
Clean black pants or professional black attire
Approved Cantina Lime shirt or designated host uniform
Clean, slip-resistant shoes
Neat and professional grooming
No personal phone use while working at the host stand
