Job Description:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment for children, adolescents, and/or adults in an outpatient setting. The ideal candidate is compassionate, collaborative, and passionate about delivering exceptional behavioral healthcare while working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
This position offers scheduling flexibility, clinical autonomy, and ongoing collaboration with experienced psychiatrists and behavioral health clinicians.

What You'll Do:
Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications.
- Provide medication management and follow-up appointments for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Evaluate patients for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato® (esketamine) treatment, determine clinical appropriateness, and develop individualized treatment recommendations (training will be provided, if needed).
- Perform initial TMS and Spravato® psychiatric evaluations, complete required clinical documentation, and collaborate with insurance providers to support medical necessity when appropriate.
- Monitor patients receiving TMS and Spravato® therapy, assess treatment response, and make ongoing medication and treatment recommendations in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness and medication side effects.
- Coordinate care with therapists, psychologists, primary care providers, schools, and other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, TMS, and Spravato® therapy.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant electronic medical records.
Collaborative Practice
- Participate in regular interdisciplinary case consultations.
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, TMS technicians, nursing staff, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Consult with supervising or collaborating physicians when clinically appropriate.
- Contribute to a positive, supportive clinical culture focused on patient outcomes.
Quality & Professional Excellence
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and professional practice standards.
- Stay current with advances in psychiatric treatment, psychopharmacology, TMS, and Spravato® therapy.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will meet the following professional requirements.
- Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia.
- Current DEA registration with prescribing authority.
- Current Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) registration (where applicable).
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from an accredited program.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and psychopharmacology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to providing neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+ inclusive mental health care.
- Experience working with neurodivergent individuals and LGBTQ+ populations is preferred.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience treating children, adolescents, and adults.
- Experience in an outpatient psychiatric practice.
- Experience with ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, OCD, PTSD, autism spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and other psychiatric conditions.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato® (esketamine) treatment protocols.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (Athenahealth experience is a plus).

Pay: From $75.00 per hour
